Job Title: Cost Accountant
Department: Finance
Reports To: Finance Manager
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Employment Type: Full-Time
Job Purpose
The Cost Accountant will be responsible for planning, analyzing, and controlling
manufacturing costs at our client Company. The role ensures accurate product costing,
inventory valuation, variance analysis, and cost efficiency across production processes. The
position supports management decision-making by providing timely financial insights that
enhance profitability and operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Costing & Inventory Management
Develop and maintain accurate product cost structures (raw materials, labor, overheads).
Perform standard costing and update Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Conduct inventory valuation and periodic stock reconciliations.
Monitor raw material usage and wastage levels in production.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Prepare production budgets and cost forecasts.
Monitor actual costs against budgets and analyze variances.
Support annual budgeting and quarterly forecast processes
Variance & Performance Analysis
Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances.
Provide detailed reports on cost drivers and recommend corrective actions.
Support pricing decisions through margin and contribution analysis
Production & Operational Support
Work closely with Production and Procurement teams to optimize cost efficiency.
Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and finished goods costing.
Evaluate cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
Prepare monthly cost reports and management dashboards.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control policies.
Support external and internal audits with required documentation.
Systems & Process Improvement
Maintain and improve costing systems within ERP/accounting software.
Enhance reporting automation and cost tracking mechanisms
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA Level 3 or ACCA (completed or finalist preferred).
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing
environment.
Strong understanding of standard costing, process costing, and inventory management.
Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel (advanced level).
